Pula means dick in Romanian... I found out when I was in Romania and said I love Pula.
I would go for Tuscany or Umbria in Italy. Umbria is sort of a cheap Tuscany without tourists, and I find that Italians are usually very helpful as opposed to France.
Romania has an easy language and really cheap, great woman and a lot of exciting nature.

I'd pick Northern Croatia - probably Lovren, Opatija or Pula.

Stockholm if you can handle the dark winters. Brussels, Prague.

You're right though the Netherlands is a shit hole.

Sure Greece, Spain , Southern europe etc but if you're going to work its not that easy to find skilled jobs. Retirement yes

When l retire l want to go back to the Ruhrgebiet,l love the place , the weathers crap but you can’t have everything, a little flat somewhere with a nice balcony, just sit and consume my curry wurst ,chips and beer, spend the weekends watching football (not touristy Schalke or Dortmund ) and drinking even more beer !

Re: Where in the Europe
In my week in Florence, I found it frenetic, with everyone in a hurry. Especially on those annoying little scooters.*

My day in Pisa was much calmer. Not too far away, so some of the same surrounding areas as Florence.

*Am I allowed to say that on WHO, without invoking the wrath of the MODs?

I used to live in Florence. It is a beautiful place with some stunning surrounding areas. It had a lot going for it and I spent a lot of time at the Artemio Franchi, but I would not recommend it as a place to live. Unless you love being surrounded by huge mobs of American and Japanese tourists constantly.

I'm in the North West of Spain. I've explained to many on here before La Coruña is lovely and has everything you could want. Cheap, Beautiful and not over run by tourists at all. Weather not as great as the rest of Spain. But compared to Northern Europe is perfect. Whomail me. If you wish to know more.

Re: Where in the Europe
Me and Mrs GB moved to Spain 15 months ago, Jalon Valley area, it’s beautiful. Close enough to the coast and tourism if you want it (8miles) but far enough away from it to be authentic as well. Good cost of living and Brilliant internet speed, can get any prem game live no problem in HD, quite a few expats but where we are everyone keeps themselves to themselves, good food and drink. Weather helps, unfortunately rain bouncing down for the last few days but won’t last long. Some of the Spanish paperwork is a bit much but no regrets yet. Try not to overthink the situation and just treat any of the problems as a normal challenge.

Not Bali now then, Boots? Seems like you get all over emotional when being somewhere on holiday, son. Another book I have read before.

Currently on holiday in Estoril, for me this place has everything.

So much so that me and the Mrs are moving out here in a couple of years!

Personally I'd probably live in Florence or the Greek island of Kea.

Re: Where in the Europe
If "being able to live and work anywhere in Europe" means you work from home, why don't you travel around for a bit? Spend a month in a different place and see what you like.

I agree. Worked in Zurich for 4 months and thought that it would a great place to live. The Swiss seem pretty friendly and laid back (the ones I worked with were lovely).
They are very serious about rules. Even the transport police are armed.
